Scientifically Proven

CBT has been scientifically proven over many years to help a number of mental health difficulties. Don’t suffer in silence, let me help you. With the right assessment and treatment, your difficulties can be overcome and you can start living a healthier and happier life.

CBT Therapy

Independent Practitioner In Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy.

As an independent practitioner, the most important aspect that I can offer you is time, choice and flexibility. My service is goal orientated and although time-limited my aims are to meet your needs without pressure to confine your sessions to a designated number. I can provide you with the amount of treatment sessions that you as an individual need to overcome your difficulties without concerns. I do provide a follow up service once treatment is complete to make sure that as you tackle your difficulties over time and your confidence grows that you will receive adequate support to confidently put into practice what you have learnt and taken from your CBT sessions.

My aim is to work collaboratively with you to understand what is causing you difficulty and how this affects you on a short and long term basis. Together we will explore how this has come about and identify what is keeping the problems going.

Most importantly we will directly tackle the problems by targeting Cognitive and Behavioural components which may have contributed to your difficulties.

Qualifications And Accreditations

Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist BSc, BABCP Accredited, RMN DipHE.

I have worked in the mental health field for around 27 years. I initially worked as a health care assistant in an elderly mentally infirm/ nursing home in 1993 and completed basic and advanced counselling training in Bognor Regis, prior to commencing my training in Hertfordshire as a psychiatric nurse in 1994-97. My clinical experience has always been in acute mental health settings. I worked on acute psychiatric wards in Hertfordshire, Worthing and in Australia and then as a community psychiatric nurse (CPN) in secondary care community mental health settings in London and Australia. I first became interested in CBT in the late 1990’s when I saw the huge improvement it made on clients who had actively engaged in CBT and began to attend CBT study days. Using CBT had a direct influence on my clinical practice with positive outcomes.

Prior to becoming an Independent CBT practitioner and working privately, which I have done over the last 10 years, I worked in Brixton, London for the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust as a CPN in 3 teams. Assessment and Treatment, Rapid Response Crisis and Community Mental Health for those with severe and enduring mental health problems. During my time in Brixton I trained at Kings College London for a BSc in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and worked at the psychotherapy department at the Maudsley for a year placement alongside my clinical work in the Brixton community MH team.

After qualifying as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist I moved to Newham, East London and worked in primary care in 2 GP practices as a CBT therapist. These were in East Ham and Plaistow. My work involved individual and group CBT and supervision of other trainee CB therapists at both Kings and Metropolitan Universities and also involved some GP training in CBT. I have been Accredited with the BABCP since 2007.

Children and Mental Health.

Whilst the majority of my earlier clinical experience was in adult acute mental health, I have a great interest in working with children and adolescents. Over the last 7 years I have undertaken further study in using CBT for children and adolescents. I have treated quite a few children successfully in my clinic to date and plan to continue working with children. This also includes further training for autism in children and adults and also in working with autism in couple relationships. I have also engaged in further training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and regulating emotion, which is particularly useful when working with adolescents.

Between 2008 to 2021 I have established myself as an independent CBT practitioner in Bognor Regis, West Sussex. In 2010 I started seeing clients at my CBT clinic at my current address. I intend to pursue working as an Independent Practitioner for the foreseeable future.
